As you may or may not know, the Assembly/Senate Bill which we fought to stop has passed in both the NYS Assembly and NYS Senate. This does not mean we will back down and stop fighting.
PLEASE CLICK CONTINUE TO COMPLETE THE FORM AND SEND A LETTER TO BOTH THE ASSEMBLY AND THE SENATE URGING THEM TO SUPPORT THE AMENDMENTS AND VOTE IN FAVOR OF SENATE BILL 7238 AND ASSEMBLY BILL 10432
Important Notification to: All AFDNC Members, Commissioners & District Treasurers,
If you are not aware, for the past couple of months there has been an ongoing issue in Suffolk County where falsified fire district checks are being written with forged signatures and attempted to be cashed in different locations throughout the US, as well as now in foreign countries. This problem has been identified in about twenty (20) Suffolk County fire districts, and up until now, it seems that this problem was localized just to Suffolk County. Unfortunately I must now inform everyone that this issue has now migrated into Nassau County. While at the AFDSNY conference this past weekend in Saratoga Springs, NY, we were notified that a falsified check was cashed in Connecticut against a Nassau County fire district.
I have been in contact with the Nassau County DA’s office and spoke to Sherry, an assistant to DA Kathleen Rice, to make them aware that this issue has now crossed over in Nassau County. She has been in contact with the Treasurer of the Nassau County fire district which was victimized to get more information and Sherry stated that this issue is being turned over to the Nassau County Economic Crime Unit. We have also provided the DA’s office with the contact information for Suffolk County DA Thomas Spota’s office and the lead detective in Suffolk working this case.
Please ensure that all Nassau County Fire District treasurers are checking their district’s accounts online daily to verify that no fraudulent checks were cashed against their district accounts. If you find or suspect that this has happened to your district, please contact Sherry in the Nassau County DA’s office at (516) 571-3577 to let her know and provide her with all the pertinent information. Also, so that I can track this issue within Nassau County for the AFDNC, along with Suffolk County association, SCFDOA, please send me an email at kevin104@nmfd-660.com with your contact information and all the details so that I can forward this information to the Suffolk detectives to help in bringing this case to a close.
Thanks,
Kevin P. Frank
